Development facilitation agency Seriti Institute recently invited Petco to host a recycling workshop in Limpopo Province that brought together 174 participants from Modimolle, Mookgophong, and Bela-Bela.
Organised by Seriti, in partnership with non-profit Organisation Hand On, the workshop’s goal was to empower attendees with insights into the opportunities and support available within the recycling sector, and to equip them with the necessary tools for their efforts to thrive.
Seriti Institute, which Petco first partnered with in early 2023, is one of the implementing agents for the government’s Community Work Programme. Since its formation in 2009, Seriti has been instrumental in creating over 8000 work opportunities across South Africa through innovative initiatives such as the Work. Learn. Grow (WLG) and aRe Bapaleng programmes.
Petco’s collaboration with Seriti is an ideal fit, as the NPO’s initiatives focus on food security, nutrition, early childhood development (ECD), cleaning and greening, as well as environmental sustainability, waste management, and recycling.
Besides employing young people in service activities related to agriculture and the environment, Seriti also works with communities and social partners to help them reach their goals by delivering innovative, sustainable, and comprehensive solutions that are geared to make a socioeconomic impact.
