We continued our drive to empower the youth with the knowledge and tools to become environmentally responsible stewards with the launch of another separation-at-source (S@S) initiative – this time at Re-e-Lwele Primary School in North West Province.

Our aim was to inspire and promote the adoption of S@S practices and to foster a culture of waste management and recycling among learners and the wider community – thereby laying the foundation for a greener, more environmentally conscious future in the region.

Among the stakeholders involved were representatives from Madibeng Local Municipality, the Department of Education, and enthusiastic learners eager to embrace the initiative's objectives.

Re-e-Lwele headmaster Jacob Motlhamme thanked the municipality’s environmental department for selecting the school as a programme beneficiary, and for sharing information and educating the learners about recycling, adding that it was one of the key solutions to effective waste management.

“I would also like to thank Petco for the donation of the separation-at-source bins. This will assist us to begin with our practical activities around recycling waste materials. The children will fill them with different types of recyclable waste, as per the guidelines on the bin labels, and these will then be collected and recycled,” he said.

For Petco, it was also encouraging to see the event draw the participation of over 300 attendees, which reflects the area’s promising community commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.
