Partnering with municipalities to host recycling workshops is one of the key ways that Petco helps to unlock economic opportunities for historically disadvantaged communities.

Recently, our Gauteng team hosted two recycling workshops in Muldersdrift and Sharpeville for local waste pickers, cooperatives, SMMEs and unemployed community members.

In Muldersdrift, the team co-hosted a workshop for 80 participants in Video Township with Mogale City Local Municipality, while 79 people attended the Sharpeville event, in collaboration with Emfuleni Local Municipality.

Both workshops focused on strengthening participants’ knowledge of recycling best practices, the opportunities within the value chain, and the support available to waste collectors and entrepreneurs through Petco.

The sessions also provided a platform for participants to talk to the team, ask questions and learn how to access the relevant opportunities.

With every workshop, Petco continues to strengthen relationships, build capacity, support the growth of the recycling value chain and, by extension, the local economy.
