Regular workshops play a big role in Petco’s efforts to stimulate collection and recycling operations, support local economies, and encourage community engagement – in the process contributing to a more effective recycling value chain.

A short while back, we hosted a recycling workshop in partnership with the Mpumalanga Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs (DARDLEA) and the Municipality of Mkhondo to educate collectors, waste pickers, buy-back centres, cooperatives, and the community of Piet Retief about the dos and don’ts of waste collection and recycling.

Part of our focus was on equipping the 69 attendees with knowledge about the different types of recyclable packaging – particularly PET and LBP. We also covered collection and sorting best practices to ensure that buy-back centres and drop-off points receive clean and correctly sorted recyclable items.
