Empowering buy-back centres and communities

Petco’s ongoing collaboration with AECI, the chemicals and mining group of companies, is helping South Africa’s recycling landscape. With our latest initiative, we joined forces to deliver critical resources to buy-back centres in the Northern Cape and Mpumalanga.

Having served the recycling industry since 2004, Petco has a pretty clear idea of what buy-back centres need. Thanks to our collaboration with AECI, we were able to supply centres with a host of essentials, including branded trailers, trollies and bins, platform scales, signage boards, personal protective equipment (PPE) and basic sorting station upgrades. This equipment will go a long way to increasing the capacity and boosting the performance of buy-back centres.

Together, Petco and AECI are also actively empowering often underappreciated communities in recognition of their role in driving South Africa’s recycling future.

As a leading producer responsibility organisation (PRO) in South Africa, Petco seeks to educate and assist all roleplayers in the sector, including the collectors and buy-back centres who occupy such a central position in the recycling economy.

Our recent collaboration with AECI gave buy-back centres the practical boost they needed to get on to a more professional footing and begin operating with greater efficiency.

In these endeavours, collaboration with industry players is key. AECI’s corporate social investment initiative is an excellent model for sustainable partnerships, raising the bar on how corporate entities can actively contribute to environmental and economic sustainability in the communities they serve.

Petco’s partnerships in this area underscore our longstanding commitment to empowering communities and advancing the circular economy.

By supplying buy-back centres with valuable resources in partnership with AECI, Petco is ensuring that local recycling centres are equipped to succeed. Just another way that Petco is working to elevate the entire recycling value chain for the benefit of all.
