Petco was proud to support a dynamic recycling workshop at the Maphalle Library in Limpopo in February. This collaborative session was delivered in partnership with the Greater Letaba Local Municipality, the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), and the Mopani District Municipality (Giyani).
The workshop brought together 38 local waste pickers and recyclers for a day dedicated to learning, discussion, and the sharing of practical knowledge across the recycling value chain. Waste pickers are central to South Africa’s recycling system, recovering a massive share of recyclable packaging and ensuring valuable materials stay in circulation rather than ending up in landfills.
Strengthening the knowledge and networks of those on the ground is critical to building a more effective circular economy.
Initiatives like this demonstrate exactly how collaboration among municipalities, industry organisations, and local recyclers can strengthen recycling systems while also supporting livelihoods at the community level.
Petco remains committed to working with partners across the country to promote responsible waste management and grow South Africa’s recycling economy, one community at a time.
