Trailer keeps LBP moving in Limpopo

To help unlock the collection of liquid board packaging (LBP) in Limpopo Province, Petco sponsored a six-metre trailer for a Polokwane-based buy-back centre that has been operating sustainably since 2022.

The buy-back centre – which collects around 230 tonnes of recyclables per month from landfill, retail businesses and waste pickers – recently added LBP to the line-up, now that Petco has helped to establish a full, working value chain for this packaging. LBP currently accounts for two tonnes of the business’s monthly collections, while PET bottles and jars account for an impressive 20 tonnes.

The availability of a trailer will enable the buy-back centre bakkies to cover a larger collection area on any given trip and collect a higher volume of recyclables before returning to site.

Last year, Petco also provided 200 bulk bags to facilitate easier transport and storage of the collected materials.
