Petco recently teamed up with the Gauteng Department of Economic Development to host two lively, hands-on workshops – one at Unisa’s Daveyton Campus and another at Kokosi Pay Point. Local residents, waste pickers, and co-ops came together to share ideas, learn more about collection and recycling, and explore how each of us can help build a stronger, more circular economy.

Petco also joined an exciting session hosted by the National Cleaner Production Centre in Kempton Park, where businesses and recyclers brainstormed new ways to collaborate and cut waste.

Soon after our Unisa visit, Petco attended the National Cleaner Production Centre’s Industrial Symbiosis Programme in Kempton Park. The event drew 66 participants, from municipal and national government to waste service providers and buy-back centres.
The programme highlights how industrial collaboration can deliver environmental, social, and economic value for entire communities. For Petco, it was an ideal opportunity to connect with like-minded partners and support South Africa’s shift toward a lower-carbon, more resource-efficient economy.
Together, these efforts are expanding Gauteng’s recycling network and building momentum where it matters most.
