WORKSHOP: “I BET YOU THOUGHT THAT WAS RECYCLABLE.”

WMRIG, the Waste Minimisation and Recycling Interest Group within the IWMSA, will be hosting a workshop on Thursday the 13th of September 2018 at the Novalis Ubuntu Institute in Wynberg. The workshop will focus on the Packaging Waste Stream, with the theme, “I bet you thought that was recyclable.”

The objectives of the workshop are to, within a South African context, (1) understand the role of recycling within a circular economy, (2) promote the use of recycled content in packaging, and (3) debunk common myths around recycling rates of various packaging streams. Furthermore, the event aims to answer the question, ‘How do we stimulate the selection of appropriate material throughout the value chain to ensure that the packaging is recycled?’

Our speakers range from brand owners and collectors to converters and recyclers. Case studies will be presented on best practice in preserving materials at their highest value for recycling ‘back into the economy’, followed by a panel discussion.
We encourage brand owners, product designers, sustainability managers, retailers, facility managers and consumers to attend.
